Roane felt a call to action after recently reading the book Sold by Patricia McCormick (a book about a young girl in India sold into the sex trade) and wanted to help those like she read about. Her mom suggested volunteering, but that was not enough for this little lady. Instead, Roane dipped into her reserve and decided to take the $11 she had saved to redecorate her room and donate it to STAR. She started to ask her relatives to match her donation and after a couple of days, she had $60 in pledges.
Funds that Roane is raising for STAR will help the organization provide the best quality of crisis intervention, education, and advocacy services to victims of sexual assault and abuse, their families and the Anchorage community.
